Higgs has a bite history. Handsome Higgs is ready to join his forever family! Higgs joined FBRN back in March, and you can read about his first week in foster care, as told by the Frog Princess.

Higgs joined FBRN because he was not getting along with the English bulldog in his previous home. Higgs pushed people and dogs around trying to get his way, and when his previous owner's circumstances meant that he was confined most of the day, his schoolyard bully behavior escalated to being destructive and nippy.

Higgs’ history as a biter means that he will need to go to a child-free home where he is the only pet. Higgs punctured the skin when he bit, but no medical attention was required. Higgs absolutely requires a strong leader who will set firm boundaries with him, and who will be committed to using firm but gentle retraining methods with him. Higgs’ biting incidents were triggered by his guarding of food and toys when other dogs were around. Higgs is a boy who likes other dogs, but who does not play so well with others. If there are no other dogs in sight, Higgs doesn’t mind humans picking up his toys or moving his food bowl.

Now let’s tell you about Higgs’ wonderful qualities, and there are many of them! Higgs has no medical issues—he is one healthy (and handsome!) frog. Higgs is housebroken and crate-trained. He hasn’t had any formal obedience training but he’d be a willing pupil for some one-on-one training.

Higgs favorite things to do include: going for walks, riding in the car, playing with balls and toys, and snuggling with his people. The boy loves his toys and can entertain himself for long periods of time—but Higgs’ shoe fetish means that your loafers will need to be put away, lest he think that they are some kind of treat. Higgs is a high-energy dog and a daily walk helps him burn off some of his excess energy, and his forever home will need to have a fenced yard for him to play and romp in. When Higgs is ready to wind down, he is the ultimate snuggle bug! He loves nothing more than to curl up close to his people on the couch or join someone on a comfy chair and get (and give) his special brand of Higgs’ lovin’!

Higgs would be fine with a mid-day dog walker or a person who can come home during lunchtime to give him some exercise and a pee break. Higgs does best with regular care and attention, so potential adopters who work away from home should schedule exercise and play time with Higgs if they plan to head out for the evening. Higgs isn’t quite ready for a job yet, but we think that he may adapt to a workplace in the future.

Higgs’ foster family has this to say about Higgs:

“Higgs is going to make a wonderful, loveable companion for that special someone who can provide him the leadership, structure and the attention he needs to keep his behavior in check. Although we will miss his silly antics and our daily snuggle time, we look forward to Higgs having his very own forever family.”

Higgs is chewing on toys and warming his foster mom’s lap in Connecticut. He would love to ride in the car to his new home, but he won’t be shipped!
