Gui came to FBRN after he fell off a bed while playing and injured his spine, going down in the back. His former owner couldn’t afford the surgery to make him well, so he made the loving decision to turn him over to us for a second chance. Gui has recovered somewhat, but needs a forever home that will protect his back from further injury.

Gui is a sweet, eager to please, people-dog. He is a clown: when his foster family comes home from work, he dances and jumps around. It’s everyone’s favorite part of the day! He knows his name and comes when called. Gui has never been around cats, so we have to say no to kitty homes. He likes small dogs and children who understand that they need to be gentle with him.

Health-wise, Gui will need to be monitored and supported regularly. He doesn’t have bladder and bowel control, so he wears diapers in the house. He has very small nares (nostrils) so he needs to be kept from overheating even more than the average Frenchie. He tires easily from previous injury. Air conditioning is critical for Gui: he runs around like crazy and gets winded, and heat makes it difficult for him to recover.

Gui’s forever person and place must fit his needs. Someone who is familiar with spinal injury would be fantastic. A one story house or apartment without stairs would be best for him, though a person to lift him up a few stairs might work too. He’d love a stay-with-me person all day, but a break from a savvy dog walker would be ok. He could go to work with his diaper on too, and love everyone that stopped by! He loves to chew his Nylabones and thinks a nice marrow bone is a great way to spend some time between belly rubs.

His foster mom says, “Gui is amazing. He’s truly an inspiration for our family, our friends and us. We’ve seen him from down and out to the superstar he is today. He is the happiest, sweetest dog. He plays well with our resident Frenchie. He’s gentle with our one-year old niece. He’s a sweet dog that just needs a little extra attention because of his disability. He listens and responds when you call his name. He likes to run and exercise in the yard but knows his limits and has no problem relaxing and laying down anywhere he is. He loves being around people, and has a face everyone can love. It’s hard not to fall in love with this cute amazing little guy. It’s been an honor to have his company.”

If you are picked as Gui’s wonderful person, you’ll need to arrange to pick him up in Long Island, NY because Gui will not be shipped!
