Little bully Frank, as wide as a tank, is a good boy waiting for his perfect home -- a home where he will be loved to bits. At approximately three years old, he has never had a family of his very own and he is beyond ready to put down some forever roots. Sporting a smile and rakishly lopped ear, he arrived in foster care a bit rough around the edges. But with the caring guidance of his foster dad, he has added polish quickly.

A circuitous route brought Frank to FBRN’s doorstep. For the first part of his life he was owned by a backyard breeder. When his services were no longer required, he was given to a family who thought they would be able to care for him. Unfortunately, they didn’t anticipate that he would be fearful and difficult to housebreak. Unable to work the problems out, they turned to FBRN for help.

Good news, though! Frank’s foster dad figured what makes his little charge tick, and reports that he is a really good guy! When asked to describe his personality, his foster dad replied that he is a happy camper. He loves to wrestle with his foster brother, another Frenchie, and roll around with his feet in the air acting silly. Then the boys get the “zoomies” and chase one another. This fun really starts after they are released from the laundry room where they spend the day plotting how to be crazy when their foster dad gets home from work.

Frank is a follower who trails behind his foster dad and brother until he is tired. Then he crashes happily on the couch, burrowing in the cushions. He will chew on some bones or a tennis ball occasionally. However, it is apparent that he previously never had a toy nor even knew what they were.

As much as Frank loves playing with his foster brother, he feels threatened by larger dogs particularly at the first meeting. Though the he hasn’t had any incidents with them, if he encounters a large dog while he is out he will stiffen up and straighten his ears. He seems unsure around small children also, acting frightened by their loud voices and quick movements. Not a big fan of his crate, when some “little people” came to visit over the holidays, Frank sought out the safety of his own little space. When they would try to play with him, he ran and hid. Older, quieter teens might be good companions for Frank, but no little tykes, please.

When it comes to humans, Frank really loves the ladies. He will readily approach a female stranger and beg for her attention. He is more leery of men, although his foster dad’s leadership has given him the confidence to evolve and become a good pet. Loud noises or threats will still send him running for cover. Although he trusts his foster dad, he is not as comfortable with his roommates. But he has never, ever shown the slightest iota of aggression. An important aspect of civilizing little Frank was improving his potty manners. When he first arrived in foster care, he marked with abandon. However, noting a pattern to his behavior, his foster dad worked with him and he now stays home during the day without an accident. He enjoys being out of the crate during the day with his foster brother. The secret is that he likes to eat in the morning, before going out. Once he eats, he must go out immediately. After that, he is good as gold. Only a scary encounter with the vacuum cleaner might elicit a submissive marking relapse.

Here’s some more good news about Frank! He is a really healthy. He had some dental work and teeth pulled when he first arrived. Plus, his skin was a bit dry and flaky, with spotty places in his coat. But after a short while on a premium food, his coat is filling in and looks luxurious. If he ever seems a little itchy, he has a medicated shampoo to use. Although he has the enchanting Frenchie snore going on, his nares and palate are fine.

Frank is so happy to be in a home and not kept in a cage, he really doesn’t care if it is an apartment or house. Because of his build (wide and long) he does not do stairs well, so minimal stairs would be best. Frank cannot be trusted off leash as he gets involved looking around at things and does not remember to come back when called. And, he doesn’t seem to know how to walk on a leash, so a fenced yard would be wonderful. He would love to go to work with his human, or he can stay home and wait, especially if he has a doggy pal to spend time with.

Summing up, Frank’s foster dad says his about his little buddy, “Frank’s been a pleasant surprise to my household. When I first brought him home, I wondered what I had gotten into. He didn’t respond to a name, wasn’t potty trained and was visibly terrified of humans. However, he slowly learned from my dog that people weren’t so bad after all… they have the food! He learned how to be a dog from him, something you could visibly tell he never had the opportunity to do before. He transformed from a dog I saw as nearly impossible, to a mountain climber. It took Frank a few months to turn a new leaf, but once he did it was a great feeling. It’s been fulfilling to see a dog transform and learn. Frank really is pleasurable to be around. He’s sweet and gentle with a goal to cuddle. If I could, I would adopt Frank myself. It does make me feel good that people who have met him are interested in adopting him.”

If you would like to share your heart and home with this great boy, please apply for Frank and then get ready to mosey on down to Texas in person, because he will not be shipped.
