Ella came from a home where there just wasn't enough time. In her former life she lived in an apartment, which was fine, but in foster care we learned that she really enjoys outdoor playtime with lots of zooming.
Ella is a very healthy dog! She has a beautiful fawn coat, lots of energy, and is alert and curious. Agile and fast, Ella would be great to work with in obedience/agility trials. The truth is, she is a lab in a Frenchie coat.
This bouncy girl loves kids of all ages but she is quite an exuberant playmate (and kisser) and might overwhelm some of the little ones. When she plays, she plays with abandon and that means chasing and "growling" and trying to grab feet! She carries on this wild rumpus whether she is playing with kids or dogs, and means no harm, but it could scare timid or small children. To be on the absolute safe side, we'll ask that kids in her home be over twelve years.
And what about cats? Well Ella's fond of them all right....for an in-between meal snack! This girl has a very active prey drive and cats would not be safe on her watch.
Ella likes other dogs, but she is dominant and takes quite a while to warm up to them to the point where she feels comfortable playing (and then, let the wild rumpus begin!) She could easily be satisfied as an only dog, but as long as the chemistry is right, a dog companion would also be fine (a male who likes to play would probably be best.)
Ella is very, very active and needs lots of stimulation and exercise. She loves balls of all shapes and sizes. She is a happy dog when she finds a ball on a walk. She carries it home and shakes it proudly! She loves her foster home's garage because there are always balls hidden in corners and under shelves. Ella loves to fetch the ball and then she brings it back and puts it on your shoe. In her foster home she spends a lot of time with her people playing fetch in the tennis courts down the street and when she passes the courts on her walks, she whines to go inside. There might be a ball in there, people!
Ella is housebroken and crate trained. She is quiet and well behaved when contained in her crate or in a room by herself. She is not a girl who demands to sleep in the people bed. She walks nicely on a leash and knows how to "sit". She is a food guarder so she is fed separately from other dogs in her foster home.
Ella needs a home where the family likes to go for long walks regardless of the weather or season. Ella likes water, too, and she will wade right in. She would be a great dog for someone who wants the looks of a Frenchie with the personality of a lab. We bet she could be trained to hunt and retrieve (cats.) And she would put them on your shoe!
The best situation would be a home where someone was around all day but she would also be fine if someone could come home at lunch to walk her and play a little. She would be a good take to work dog! She would especially love a job that was active (delivery, sales, construction, home-health aide, President.) She is great in the car, and loves to go new places and meet new people. When it is time to sit at a desk, she lies down and naps.
Ella would enjoy living with older, dog savvy kids, and fun-loving, even-tempered dogs, preferably male. She likes dogs that initiate play and like to be chased. No cats. No cats! Owners must show proof of cat allergies. (kidding!)
This one needs a fenced yard. She really enjoys the outdoors. The fence is a must because she will hunt rabbits and squirrels (good fried, she says.) Ella would do best with a dog savvy owner. Ella will take charge if you won't and the responsibility of being in control is no fun for her. She can get very tightly wound. It took a couple of weeks, but Ella settled down and relaxed in her foster home.
A few final words from her foster mama: "Ella is moving to a new foster home in a few days because we have cats. I wish I could keep her longer. I love our walks and the enthusiasm she brings to them. Ella reminds me to stop working and have fun and throw the ball. I wish I could take her to our cabin so she could clear it of mice and red squirrels. Ella needs to work. She needs to run and hunt and wade. She is a good girl but very busy. Ella needs a wide open space to fill with her wonderful energy."
Ella is in MN ordering the Acme Cat Smashing Anvil via the internet. Please fill out an application for her before she opens her own Paypal account. When you pick her up in person, be sure there is room in the car for her ball collection!
