It’s not often that we find a frog that would be more comfortable in an occasionally chilly northern climate instead of warm, tropical southern beaches, but our Eleanor Marie is in search of a forever home where there are 4 distinct seasons. Sweet Eleanor was surrendered by her former owners when her allergies became too much to handle in the constant warmth and sun of Florida. Eleanor has environmental allergies, and due to the non-changing climate of the Deep South, she suffered constantly. Her family was quick to notice that she improved on trips north, and therefore made the difficult decision to find her a new home up north.
Eleanor is now living in Tennessee and enjoying her time in foster care. She is a 3 year old female who loves everyone and loves to play! She would love a home with other young dogs who appreciate her need for play. An elderly or sedate dog would not be the best companion for Eleanor. She loves kids, but can be exuberant, so we think that kids over 10 years would be best for Eleanor. She does not seem to mind cats, so dog-savvy cats would be ok. Eleanor loves people, but she needs to warm up to them, so her new family will have to be aware of her skittishness around strangers. Eleanor just needs a little extra time, that’s all. Once she’s your friend, she is a friend for life. Eleanor loves to snuggle with her person and promises to provide her family with goofiness and entertainment. She enjoys a good romp outside and will need a fenced yard. Obedience training would be a great bonding experience for Eleanor and her new family, and leash training will be a must. When there are no outside activities to be had, Eleanor enjoys a good chewing session with her Nylabones, or engaging in the Frenchie Olympic sport of destroying stuffies with great gusto. Her foster mom says she is the best housebroken foster ever as long as she gets out every 4-5 hours. We would prefer her person be home all day, but a dog walker would also be considered. She would also be a good office dog, provided she had no access to an exit and frequent walks. Eleanor is not an apartment dog, preferring the wide open spaces of a backyard in order to burn off some youthful exuberance.
Eleanor’s biggest challenge remains her allergies. We see more and more frogs with allergies, and Eleanor’s new owners must be committed to controlling them, or she will end up a miserable, itchy, infected frog. She needs to be fed a grain-free diet which her foster family will go over with her new family. Her ears will need to be cleaned at least every other day given her history of frequent ear infections. She will require ear cytologies to make sure her infection has resolved and does not return. Eleanor’s foster family will review all of this information with her forever family in order to ensure that she remain happy and healthy.
Eleanor’s foster mom has this to say “The perfect home for Eleanor will be looking for a dog that is sweet, goofy & 100% entertainment. They will need to be dedicated to cleaning and watching her ears forever & keeping her on a quality diet. She is very easygoing and is good company without being clingy. She will need practice on leash, so a fenced yard is required.”
Eleanor Marie will make one family very, very happy. If you think you have what it takes to give Eleanor a new start in a new climate, please apply for her. She will be happy to review each and every application while packing her bags and shopping for a new winter wardrobe. Eleanor is in Eastern Tennessee.
