Duke came to FBRN as half of a pair. His military family was having a hard time, and couldn't give Duke and Puddy the time and attention they knew they should. (Puddy is being placed separately.)

Duke is a timid dog. He needs a special family who understands the need of timid/shy dogs and won't allow him to be persecuted or teased, but will provide consistent opportunities for Duke to prove himself and grow. He likes to chew on plants and stuffies, and he should be watched so he doesn't get into trouble, and he loves to sunbathe. He's a submissive dog, and he doesn't need more than a walk or two for exercise every day.

He's got the basics of obedience, and he's housetrained and crate trained. He is timid and shy. If he is bullied by another dog, he will withdraw. He likes to have a dog buddy as his "wing-man" to pal around with, and play gently with.

For his forever family, his mom is looking for someone who is home all or most of the day--or he'd be fine as a go-to-work dog!-- and a home with another laid-back, gentle dog for Duke to hang out with. A fenced yard would be nice, but because he eats plants, he can't be left unsupervised outdoors.

Here's what his foster mom says about our dear Duke:

"Duke is the sweetest dog that I have ever fostered. When he bonds with someone he bonds deeply. His trust is a wonderful reward. Although he is timid, he doesn't act out of fear inappropriately. He needs a sensitive home with people who'll encourage Duke to be brave and have fun. He would thrive in a home where he would be able to interact with another dog, but not a large group of them. Duke was once attacked by a pack of dogs before coming to me, and he still doesn't like groups of more than one or two other dogs. When he is feeling a bit clingy, he sits on his foster brother or sister. They don't mind. Everything about Duke is gentle, even when he sits upon you."

Duke is resting his tush on a Frenchie somewhere in SoCal. If you'd like to make him part of your gentle home life, you should plan on picking him up there. He won't be shipped.
