"No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn" – Jim Morrison

“Wooo, wooo, wooooo.” After performing her morning necessities, Darci runs up on the deck greeting the new day with cheerful enthusiasm. With an adorable play bow and bark, she shows her appreciation for every single sunrise. Each day is a fresh start for this endearing little girl who could make the frostiest heart melt.

If you were visiting Darci, we would tell you, “Pick her up. We know you want to. Isn’t she snuggly?” Everyone who meets her thinks so and is smitten with her sweet charms. Recently, one of our volunteers was traveling and while in the area had this very opportunity. Not usually one to gush, she couldn’t stop talking about Darci saying, “If someone is out there who wants unconditional love; a cozy friend to sit next to; and a happy, delighted face when you come in the door – take a good, hard look at Darci! She’s precious, joyful and very easygoing. After her rough start as a breeder mom, she just soaks in all the love given her. Darci is what rescue is all about. She will give thanks every day of her new life. I couldn’t get enough of her when I was visiting her foster mom and truly wanted to sneak her on the plane with me.”

Fortunately for you, Darci’s outspoken fan didn’t carry out her desire and whisk her away. She is available and is waiting to share her life with you! A Frenchie love sponge, she is happiest when close to her humans, sitting in a willing lap while giving kisses and getting belly rubs. She follows her foster mom from room to room waiting for the invitation for some loving. When she thinks it is being offered, she comes running.

If you are retired or work from home, Darci would be a perfect companion. Her joie de vivre is contagious and you will find yourself smiling along with her at random times during the day. You could also take her to work in a quiet office without much commotion. If Darci snoozes beside you, you will be treated to the vision of her little pink tongue peeking out coyly. A bit timid, she gets shy when meeting new people or if the environment is too raucous. Loud crashing and banging about will startle her, so a peaceful household or work environment would be the most comfortable. In love with humans large or small, she would welcome your quiet, respectful children.

Scrub-a-dub-dub, Darci’s a pleasure in the tub! She lies down quietly to get her bath. She also sets a very good example for her foster fur siblings, getting her nails Dremeled with barely any fuss. She’s really a very good girl all around. She is crate-trained and has a cute evening routine. After she is in her crate, she licks her lips waiting for her bedtime treat. Although she doesn’t ask to go out, if kept on a regular schedule of breaks every two to three hours she is reliably housebroken.

Darci can get growly with new dogs but once she realizes they are not a threat she does fine. She and her foster siblings, another Frenchie girl and a jolly little puppy boy, play for hours. They bite ears and legs and do spirited zoomies. Extra sweet with the puppy, she obligingly cleans ears. Although she is possessive of her toys sometimes, she is easily redirected. She takes such pleasure in her play; we think she would be happiest chasing butterflies in a fenced yard with another small canine pal.

On the whole, Darci is in good health. Chronic ear infections and itchy feet have been kept in check and she takes Benadryl. Because she licks her feet sometimes, they should be watched for bacterial or fungal infections between the pads. Sometimes a little creaky in the mornings, she is taking a joint supplement. She also had a mast cell tumor removed and clean margins were achieved. The successful surgery means that there is not likely to be a reoccurrence, although it is always good to keep an eye out for suspicious bumps. Darci’s vet has fallen under her spell, and is very excited about helping her to find a great home. She has generously offered to discuss her health with selected candidates.

Darci’s adoring foster mom has this to say about her: "Darci is such a sweet girl, who wants nothing more than to be loved by her person. It is hard to believe that a dog who had such a rough start could turn out to be such a lovebug. She loves any attention she can get, and is very content to cuddle up at your side on the sofa, or lie at your feet while you work. She is going to make someone a loyal companion."
