Cornbread is ready to join his forever home! If you recall, Cornbread returned to FBRN’s care following an incident in his home where he growled at and eventually bit the toddler. Uh oh! No more kids for Cornbread, that’s for sure! He’s a dog that needs a home all his own. While he tolerates his canine foster siblings, Cornbread would much prefer to be the main attraction in his new home. No kids, no canines, and per FBRN’s policy regarding the kitties, he’ll need a cat-free home as he hasn’t been exposed to cats to know how he’ll respond towards them.

It appears that Cornbread’s growly, bitey behavior was triggered by the arrival of his family’s baby. What’s puzzling is that Cornbread had a great history in his home prior to the baby. He was extremely loving towards his parents and they had even trained him to be a therapy dog, which he was quite good at! Harmful behavior towards infirm or frail beings must never be tolerated, and it was decided for everyone’s safety that Cornbread be rehomed. During his time in foster care, Cornbread bounced right back to being an excellent, snuggly dog. Based on his many years of good behavior in his former home as well as in his present foster home, we think Cornbread will make an excellent transition to being the only dog in a childfree family.

At the age of eight, Cornbread enjoys his walks and is obedient on the leash, but takes it slowly—no speed walking for him! Cornbread is a laidback guy that likes to cuddle with his humans and chew on his Nylabones. He’s a real love bug, his foster mama says! He’d do best in a home with one or two adults without a lot of commotion. Because we don’t want to repeat his past situation, absolutely no kids, grandkids, neighbor’s kids stopping by—you get the picture! First-time Frenchie owners would be fine for Cornbread.

Cornbread doesn’t take well to being crated, but does just fine in an X-pen or gated to one room. He is housebroken, but may not be able to hold it as long as a younger dog can. Cornbread could adjust to a dog walker, but would need some slower introductions as he experiences some anxiety in new situations without the human he is attached to. A few visits with the dog walker and his new owner would be enough to get him comfortable with the dog walker alone. Because Cornbread is a companion Frenchie, he’d do best with a person that works from home or is home a lot. He could even join you (with some slower introductions) at your workplace. Cornbread’s therapy dog training and experience would be a great asset to any workplace!

Apartment life would be fine for Cornbread, and while a home with a fenced yard is preferable it is not necessary.
Besides some mild allergies and face wrinkles that are prone to infection and that require regular wiping, Cornbread is in good health.

Cornbread’s foster mama has this to say about him:

“Corny is a great dog. He is a little clown and makes me laugh everyday! He needs to get to his forever home ASAP so he can adjust and get on with being spoiled for the remainder of his life. If he got along with other dogs I would consider keeping him—that’s how much I care for this boy! He loves belly rubs and just being with his person. Sometimes he howls if he is alone and you are home. He took a little while to warm up to me, but he was taken from his home after being there for six years.

Cornbread would be a wonderful companion for a retired person. He travels in the car like a champ. He loves to lie on his little rug and chew his bones or nestle in his nest bed. He is such an easy dog to care for. I will miss his handsome little face.”

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
