Please read the information on adopting a puppy mill dog before applying for Cambridge.
When you think of Cambridge, you may think of universities and higher learning, but we want to give you a new definition of the word. Cambridge also means one lovable, cute and incredibly sweet floppy-eared frog and she is looking for a forever family to continue with her on her educational path.
Cambridge is a retired breeder from a puppy mill, who was lucky enough to be surrendered to FBRN. She was separated from her puppies and embarked on a long journey to her foster home, but handled it well. She has come a long way during her time in foster care college and she’d like to tell you a little bit about herself as she prepares for graduation.
Cambridge is a 6 year old female who gets along with just about everybody in her life. Cats, dogs, humans, she loves them all. She is fostering with a cat and a dog now and she would really like to have a canine sibling to pal around with and show her the ways of the world. Since she is a little bit of an older gal, we would prefer a more mellow canine companion and older or dog-savvy children for Cambridge. She is very healthy, showing no sign of any medical problems at the moment. She did live in a wire cage for the 1st part of her life (not the ideal educational set-up) so she is still “finding her legs”. Her foster family is feeding her a high quality diet, and coat and joint supplements as well.
She is housebroken for the most part, but this is a work in progress, as six years in a wire cage is hard to overcome. She is still getting used to regular walks, as the world is sometimes a little overwhelming for this frog. Cambridge does have some allergies that her foster family is working to pin down and treat. So far, she is on a limited ingredient diet to try and avoid whatever is causing the itchies. Cambridge also had some very gunky and bumpy ears that are likely a result of these allergies. Her forever family will need to keep those allergies in mind and continue to work to make Cambridge a comfortable froggie with no itchy skin.
Cambridge needs a home where her new family will be patient with her as she continues her exploration of life. A fenced yard is preferred but not required as long as she has regular walks. We would prefer someone who stays at home since she spent the first 6 years of her life alone - or she could accompany you to the office, she’s really very flexible! Cambridge would also be a great companion for an older couple who are looking for a mellow dog to adore them and explore the world with.
There are just so many cute things about this floppy-eared frog that we cannot list them all. Her foster mom has this to say about her, and we think she says it perfectly: “Cambridge is the SWEETEST little girl! Everyone who's met her has just loved her to pieces. She is a mellow, submissive girl who likes her naps and belly rubs, but is very curious about all the new things she finds in her environment. I consider Cambridge an 'adult puppy' as she is just beginning her learning process on how to 'be a dog' and a loving member of a family pack. It's all new to her, but we've made some great progress! Having another dog in the house to point her in the right direction has definitely helped. She's learning to play and loves a good wrastling match, or an 'I got the toy!' jaunt around the house. She even enjoys just chomping on a toy by herself on her princess bed. A note...she IS a power-chewer so toy choices should be made accordingly. Since she was a puppy mill girl and stayed in a cage for so long, her stamina isn't the greatest. We are working on making our daily walks longer bit by bit and helping her build up some muscle tone in her legs. Cambridge LOVES big dog beds…the bigger the better. We call it her princess bed. She will come up to you with her whole back end wagging and when you go to pet her she ‘reels you in’ to come pet her on her princess bed. That is her FAVORITE place to be patted and fawned over. Her other favorite things include having a dog buddy to pal around with, greeting you with little kisses on your calves (as that is as high as she can reach), cottage cheese, playing, and sleeping. Oh, and chewing on her toes, which we are working on…I think part of it is a comfort/boredom thing. How can you look at that face and those floppy ears and NOT think she is the cutest thing?? Well, if that doesn’t work just wait until you see her trotting along like a little Clydesdale...she’s adorable! You can tell she hasn’t walked much in her past life. She looks like she’s still getting used to her legs. It’s funny, the first full day we had her and let her roam free in the house to see what she would do she just started trotting around the couch and coffee table over and over again. My husband was like, ‘What is she doing?’. And I looked at her and said to him, ‘Walking honey…she’s walking.’ It was one of those amazing moments, seeing her so happy…just walking.
This little girl has grown SO much in the little time we have had her. She is so smart, so loving, and has such an amazing spirit. She may have come from difficult circumstances, and she may still be scared of things and not know all of the 'right' ways to be a dog yet, but you can see she wants to love it all and learn it all. And we want to find the family that will help her find this in her life.”
Cambridge is considering her post-college path in SW Florida and wants to review it in person, so she will not be shipped. Please plan on picking this graduate up in person.
