Three-year-old Bruiser is a pied prince among frogs. He was surrendered to FBRN due to a change in family circumstances.
Bruiser was originally purchased as a puppy from a pet shop, which means he most likely has a puppy mill background. Luckily, his only health issue is mild allergies requiring specialty dog food. All in all, Bruiser is a gentle and happy little chap. He loves humans, but is not an attention hog, and is very, very sensitive. His new owner must have a very gentle hand; no harsh corrections for this little guy.
Bruiser is happily accepting of the fur kids in his foster home, both canine and feline. He is a laid-back guy who occasionally likes to play like an insane wild beast for short periods, then settles back and sleeps for the rest of the day. His favorite toys are stuffies but he will rip those to smithereens, so he is a Nylabone only guy in his foster home. He would do best with a dog that can hold their own with his rough play, but is not aggressive. Bruiser does not like confrontation and will avoid it by walking away (if only we were all so wise.) He is fearful of very aggressive dogs, again displaying his good sense.
Bruiser is house trained and crate trained, but has not had any obedience training. He has not been around children while in foster care but he would probably be okay with older children. His playful bursts are too energetic for tots.
Someone who is home all day would be preferable for Bruiser, because he truly lives to be with his people. Someone who works would be okay, but he MUST have a mid-day walk. He would make a fantastic take to work dog, since he is so laid-back. He would do well in a suburban or urban setting, as long as he gets to go on his much loved walks.
Bruiser's foster mom has this to add:
"This little man is darn near perfect. Bruiser is a very laid-back, easygoing guy. He will give over to wild play, but only for a short while and then it's back on the couch next to you or curled up in his bed. But understand this, when he plays, he plays hard! He loves to drag one of his foster sisters around by the leg, and he will also body slam her. So no frail dogs for him. He loves his toys and will parade around the house with them in his mouth making all kinds of snorting sounds, as if to say, "Look what I've got!" He gets along great with dogs and enjoys their company, but he would also do well as an only dog. He loves car rides, and would be a great companion for a retiree who wants a buddy to go everywhere with them."
Every little prince needs some loyal subjects to call his very own. If you would like to help Bruiser find his own special kingdom, please get ready to bring the royal carriage out east. Bruiser is now presiding over the Commonwealth of Virginia and will not be shipped.
