Bob is ready to join his forever home! Since coming into FBRN’s care, Bob has thrived with the love and patience of his foster family. They have been treating his allergies with weekly baths and occasional Prednisone (at the height of spring and fall.) Bob underwent surgery to his left eye to correct cherry eye and a puncture wound. He can see just fine, but will need his eyes checked every six months as he may at some point develop dry eye and would need inexpensive eye drops.

Bob likes kids and would do well in a home with older, calmer children. Bob has four foster brothers (ages 13–18), and he absolutely adores the 13-year-old, and follows him from room to room and cuddles up with him on the couch. Because Bob is on the big side, he might easily knock over a smaller child. Bob’s temperament is not suited to heavy-duty roughhousing—he’s the kind of dog who will play a little, but most of all loves his role as companion to his humans.

As far as other dogs go, Bob should be an only dog. Cats are fine creatures for Bob—there are five indoor-only cats in his foster home, and Bob mostly ignores them.

Bob LOVES his people and wants to be with them at all times. Bob is quite happy doing whatever it is his humans are doing and is content simply sitting next to you or better yet, on your lap. Bob also enjoys chewing his Nylabones and playing with his Kongs and stuffies. As long as he can see you and be near you, all is right in Bob’s world. Bob is extremely food-motivated and will do just about anything for a morsel. Bob has not had any formal obedience training, but has been working with his foster mom and now sits, lies down, and goes to his crate on command. Because Bob is so food-motivated, he does quite well with training that includes treats. Bob’s forever home should be prepared to continue to work with Bob using gentle and patient methods.

Because of the disruption Bob has experienced being moved around so much, it is preferable that someone be with him most of the day. If his people must work, Bob will definitely require a mid-day dog walker or pet sitter. It is also preferable that Bob go to a home with a fenced yard. If Bob sees another dog he will lunge and give his Frenchie wail, and at 40 pounds, Bob is quite a bit of muscle to control! Bob gets regular daily walks that help him to burn some of that nervous energy, and he’s made some improvements at seeing other dogs at a distance. His future home will need to be prepared to address this behavior when taking Bob out, and a secure fenced yard is a good place for Bob to play hard and do his business in.

His foster mom has this to say about the Big Guy:

“Though Bob has a few issues–his biggest being that of strange dogs– he is an absolute joy to have around. He loves to snuggle with his people, and tries hard to please them. Once he warms up to someone and trusts them, it is his goal to be with them always. I absolutely adore the big boy, and I’m going to miss him more than I imagined I would. Whoever his forever family turns out to be, will be blessed with him. Though he has a few issues, he is well worth it and the love they’ll get back from him just radiates from his big goofy self.”

Bob is warming the lap of his foster mom in Southern New Jersey. He will not be shipped—No siree Bob!—though the big guy would happily settle in your lap for the ride home.
