“Oh where have you been, charming Billy?”
You will be wondering where Billy has been all your life once you meet him. A delightful party in a pooch, he keeps his foster parents continuously amused with his sweet innocence and funny ways. FBRN rescued Billy from a NYC shelter and he showed some signs of having been neglected, but he holds no grudges. There isn’t a mean bone in his little spotted body and he thinks the whole world is his personal oyster to enjoy.
The perfectly formed Mickey Mouse spot on Billy’s back is a portent to his happy personality. He loves, loves, loves people and wants be with them all the time. He excels in kisses and is a great snuggle buddy as his foster dad will attest. He can’t chew his bones by himself, but wants to sit on you while chewing - making you a part of the experience. Once done, he tries to bury the bones in the sofa cushions for later retrieval. He walks right up to every person he meets on the street and stares at them until they pet him. Then he rolls over for a belly rub too!
Billy is estimated to be two or three years old, and he is still very puppy-like in his energy level and sense of play. He can entertain himself by tossing his ball in the air, fetching it and tossing it in the air to catch again. He surprises himself when he spots himself in the mirror or when he emits one of his rare barks. After the bark he cocks his head quizzically as if to ask, “Who did that?!”
He would enjoy another doggy companion immensely as long as his friend was full of energy and shares his sense of humor. For example, he thinks it is amusing to grab playmates by the collar and drag them around the house. When he is out walking in his metro neighborhood and spots a dog, he lies down and waits to pounce when the unsuspecting canine comes close. If the other dog does not want to play, he will wail and scream like a dying elephant!
A sturdy, older child would find a wonderful playmate in Billy. But, he does like to jump on people when greeting newcomers and in excitement. He would easily frighten or topple a smaller child. He also engages in mouthy play, which a dog-savvy child would know how to handle. Billy has a bad habit of putting everything in his mouth as well, including rocks, coins, and children’s toys. His home and yard must be puppy-proofed to avoid accidental swallowing and subsequent obstructions.
Among his accomplishments, Billy boasts that he passed the “cat test”. He spent the weekend with another family blessed with kitties, and he pretty much ignored them. He should do fine in a home with dog experienced cats.
While in foster care, Billy has had surgeries for cherry eye, nare and palate correction, and has been neutered. He still has grade 2-3 luxating patellae which do not bother him at all right now, but could require attention as he ages. He does very well on a raw food or home cooked diet including meats and veggies. His new family must be committed to keeping him strictly on this diet. Commercial foods do not agree with him, and give him very bad diarrhea.
Housebreaking is still a work in progress for Billy. Kept on a schedule with walks 4 to 5 times a day, he is doing well with occasional lapses. His diet is very important here as well, as he can’t hold it when his belly is upset. Since being in foster care, he has learned how to walk and eliminate on a leash, and enjoys his outings. Where else will he encounter an unexpected trash can or his own reflection in a window to marvel at? Because he is so comfortable in a city environment, a fenced yard is not required for him. Someone who is at home more often than not will keep him on his schedule.
Billy boy is waiting in the NYC metro area to be the light of your life. Take a plane, take a train, drive your car – whatever you do, the trip will be worth it if you are fortunate enough to be selected for his forever home. Remember, we do not ship our Frenchies!
