Barkley, aka Snort, has come a long way from his wandering days.. Barkley’s story with FBRN begins when he was found fending for himself on the mean streets of suburban Texas. Skinny and heartworm positive, this happy young frog fell into the home of a loving and capable foster family.
The first task at hand for his foster mom – besides fattening this rambler up – was to address his heartworm disease. We are happy to report that he is now clear of that dangerous illness, and is an overall healthy frog. His forever family needs to be diligent about his monthly heartworm preventative and yearly heartworm checks so that this never plagues him again.
Snort’s dumpster diving days are behind him! His meals are now served to him in bed. Or, “breakfast in crate,” if you will. Seems that Barkley can’t shake his stint as a stray and chases off his foster siblings to eat their meals. For this reason his foster mom feeds him separately. He’s never been rude with his siblings, never growled or bitten, just behaved piggishly.
Barkley is a happy go lucky guy who gets along with everybody. He loves other dogs – especially active, playful ones. He also adores children and gets along great with those in his foster home. We would love for Barkley’s forever family to have a four legged companion for him to romp with, as well as a kid or two. Because Barkley is not up to speed on his manners yet – he jumps high and hard and plays rough - we think he’d be a better fit for a home with children over 5. There are no kitties, birds, ferrets or other small critters in Snort’s foster home so to be safe, we'll say "no" to homes with those residents.
Besides being an unworried kind of guy, Barkley is very smart. His forever family will need to be diligent about his obedience training, but he likes to please and learns quickly. Barkley would do fine with a first time Frenchie family who has researched the breed.
Barkley still has a smidge of wanderlust left in him, so a home with a fenced yard is a must! However, he does like to get out and see the sights and his forever family will enjoy taking him as he walks well on a leash.
Snort is housebroken and crate trained and would do well in a variety of homes. Someone who is around most of the time would, as always, be ideal. Someone who works but will run home to spend their lunch with Barkley would be great also. Or…Barkley would enjoy having a midday dog walker. Or…Barkley would probably adjust to being the office mascot. He’s a pretty adaptable guy.
One of Barkley’s biggest thrills in life is toys! He loves them all and can’t get enough of playing! His favorite toys squeak. The crazier, louder squeak the better! His forever family had better get a huge variety. When he gets bored with one he tends to morph into the dreaded toy killer.
Here’s what Barkley’s foster mom has to add about this silly, sweet guy: He has been the most wonderful and loving foster I have ever had. He loves toys and to curl up in your lap or next to you to snuggle when you’re both worn out. He’s very smart, submissive, but not to the point that he’s scared. He’s happiest when he’s with you. He’s very quiet, unlike his foster Schnauzer siblings, and only barks when he wants something and you’re not getting it.
If you would like to make Barkley part of your family, load up your car with squeaky toys and come on down to the vast Houston metropolitan area! Barkley will be waiting there for you and he will not be shipped.
