Bacon was unceremoniously dropped off at the police department with only his collar to his name. He made friends with the dispatcher, who turned this delicious Frenchie over to the care of FBRN.

Bacon is a healthy young Frenchie: He is neutered, and current on shots and preventatives. He is a very noisy breather and may require surgery at some time in the future. The vet does not feel that surgery is required at this time, but Bacon would do best in a cool climate or carefully kept from overheating. His only other issue is dry skin.

Bacon was an only dog in his previous home, and he doesn't seem to understand how to communicate and play with other dogs. He wants to be the alpha dog, so he must be watched closely with other dogs. He will challenge any dog, big or small, if he feels that they have gotten too close to his "mom", or if he thinks they are fighting. Bacon is currently living with 8 other dogs and 4 cats, but he seems to be unsure of his place in the pack and how to communicate in dog language. Bacon has no food or toy aggression with humans, and eats in the same room as his foster siblings. Bacon is "mouthy" and rough when he plays which some people may misinterpret, but he does not bite. In his need to be the alpha dog, he will challenge other dogs and will not back down if he feels challenged by them. We will not place him in a home with another alpha dog or where the people are inexperienced with alphas.

Bacon is a very laid-back people pleaser. A workout for him would be one quick run in the backyard, which must be followed by hours of couch time. He is very food motivated, so he could be taught just about anything that his people would take the time to teach him. Bacon is house trained and has had zero accidents in foster care. He doesn't bark to go out, but he does go to the door and pace. He could easily be taught to ring a bell or use whatever signal his family would choose. He will willingly enter his crate, but will loudly protest if he thinks anyone is in earshot.

Bacon has no real interest in toys, but he LOVES to go "bye-bye". Speak those words and he jumps up and down, grinning from ear to ear. He doesn't care when, where, or what distance as long as he gets to ride. Around the block, or hours on the road: he is in heaven. He loves going places to meet new people but would not be a candidate for a dog park.

Bacon would be happy in any type of family, big or small. Because he plays rough and mouthy, families with small children will not work for him. Older kids, teens, and 'tweens' would all suit Bacon. He would do equally well with retired folks.

Apartment, house, or motor home; all would be okay with Bacon. His requirements are good food, a soft bed, air conditioning, and love. Because he will bark in his crate if anyone is around, he could annoy neighbors in an apartment. Bacon is house trained and could do fine with someone who works (but not long hours day-in and day-out spent in a crate.) Someone who is always home would really rock his world! Bacon would do well in an office, but he would not be a good door-greeter for a pet store or any place where strange dogs would be coming in and out.

Bacon’s foster mom describes him his way: “Bacon is a big boy with a crooked ear that gives him a constant quizzical look. It takes very little to make him happy and he has lots of love to give. He is a young dog with an old dog's soul.”

If you need a little Bacon in your life, you will need to head for the heartland of Missouri, because Bacon will not be shipped.
