Autumn is the type of French bulldog that melts your heart when you meet her. She longs to spend her days lounging in the sun or napping on your lap. She is the perfect match for those who enjoy a simple and slow paced way of life.
Autumn deserves to take it easy these days. This little lady was surrendered to FBRN by a breeder when she was no longer profitable to them anymore. Autumn arrived at her foster home with only two rotten teeth left in her mouth, a toenail growing into the pad of her front foot, and a large tumor hanging on one of her mammaries. All of these issues were addressed and Autumn is now a healthy toothless senior.
Autumn's favorite way to spend the day is to follow her foster dad from room to room or around the backyard. When she can wrangle him back into his recliner in front of the TV she is extremely happy because she can sit in her comfy bed and keep a good on eye on him. She is extremely fond of her foster dad and does a little happy dance for him every day when he comes home from work. Her idea of the perfect day would include lots of naps in bed, trips out to a sunny yard to potty, and lots of good food.
Autumn is laid back and does not really care much about playing with toys, although she does occasionally like to suck on a Nylabone. She enjoys taking frequent potty breaks outside, but does not give a signal when she needs to go out. Autumn learns routines quickly and is a creature of habit. Autumn is crate trained, but since she spent most of her life crated she prefers to have the roam of the house now. Autumn does not really like to be around other dogs. She would be best placed into a home where she would be the apple of your eye and not have to share her people.
Autumn is a resource guarder and will attack any dog of any size that gets too close to her human or her food bowl. Since Autumn has no teeth she will not ever be able to harm another dog, but there is a possibility that she could be hurt or killed by another dog who might not appreciate being attacked by an old gal. She is neutral with cats and does not seem to notice them as long as they stay away from her food bowl. Autumn is not fond of children; little ones make her nervous and she prefers to avoid them.
The ideal home for Autumn would be with a calm, laid back person/couple who enjoys spending lots of time around their home and in their yard, and taking the occasional stroll on nice days. She likes dry, sunny weather and prefers not to venture outside in rain, snow, sleet, or any kind of wet! Autumn could be a great pet for a couple, but would do best without kids or other dogs. She does get car sick, so she would not be a good travel companion. Her legs are a bit bowed and she waddles when she walks, making the navigation of stairs extremely difficult, so a one level home or apartment would be best. A fenced yard is not required but would be a good idea if there are other dogs in the neighborhood. Autumn could adapt to living with someone that works outside of the home as long as she got a mid day potty break. As an older gal, she needs to potty frequently and would do best with someone who is home to take her out often.
Autumn's foster mom has this to say about her, "My hope is that Autumn will find a person who is available to dote on her 24/7 for the rest of her days. She is quite the little guard dog and would like nothing better than a person of her very own to love and protect. Her personality shines when she is not looking over her shoulder to see what other dogs are doing and whether or not that are too close to "her" person. She obviously lived a hard life, birthed many puppies, and was shown very little love or care. Now is her time to retire as a much loved pet."
If you are interested in adopting Autumn, be prepared to travel. She is being fostered in East Central Missouri and will not be shipped.
