Aurelie (Lee-Lee), a little girl surrendered after she was given as a gift (It's a lovely, generous thought to give someone a puppy, but it doesn't always end well. Personally, we like jewelry.), has made her way to the Available page! She's looking for someone able to keep up with a silly, energetic puppy and play endless games of tickle belly, but who is also a confident leader able to set clear boundaries in order to keep her from becoming a stubborn, demanding diva. If you think you fit the bill for Aurelie, read on!

Since Lee-Lee's previous owners were not able to handle her high energy and housebreaking needs, she was relegated to her crate most of the time. As a result, her foster mom has put long hard hours into potty training and breaking her habit of eliminating in her crate. Aurelie is now able to keep her crate clean and will go directly outside to potty when let out. She sleeps in her crate overnight and does very well. Her housebreaking skills have come a long way, but she is still a work in progress. Any potential adopter should be patient with Aurelie, expect accidents, and be prepared to keep her on a consistent potty schedule to further her success. A home with a fenced yard is preferable as Lee-Lee is still learning to potty on lead.

An otherwise healthy girl, Lee-Lee has luxating patellas in both legs. They don't appear to bother her and the veterinary specialist does not recommend surgery. Any potential adopter should be aware of any progression in her condition and the possible need for surgery and physical therapy at a later date.

One day while on a walk, Aurelie ran into a burning building to save a litter of kittens and a baby and bumped her eye on the way in. Well, actually, after sustaining what appeared to be a minor injury while playing, vision was lost in her left eye. After several weeks of nursing the injury, it was determined that her sight would not be regained and the safest treatment moving forward was to have it removed. Lee-Lee never missed a step, coming home the day of the surgery wanting dinner and a walk. She wore her inflatable collar like a crown and followed all the doctor’s orders until she was healed. Now she’s ready to find a forever home that thinks she’s perfect just the way she is. She may not be able to get her pilot’s license, but that’s about the only thing this adorable girl can’t do.

Besides potty training, Lee-Lee has also been working on basic obedience while in foster care. After being on a consistent exercise and play schedule foster mom reports that she is now able to settle and focus for more than just a few seconds.

A typical young-un with boundless energy, Lee-Lee is very confident and curious to learn new things. She needs focused direction so her energy is expended on good and not naughty. She does not understand the concept of gentle play yet, and like most Frenchies, she has a very hard mouth. She prefers to play by nipping at hands and clothing and must be positively redirected. For this reason, we think Aurelie would not be suited for households with young children. However, Lee-Lee adores people and loves to be the center of attention! She loves to cuddle, play with her toys and will hop around like a deer.

In spite of all her energy, Aurelie has made several trips to foster mom's office and has been very well behaved, lying quietly under her desk, entertaining herself with toys. For potential adopters in dog unfriendly offices, a mid day dog walker is acceptable, provided Lee-Lee can get out for an adequate amount of exercise and mental stimulation. A simple potty break is not enough for this energetic froglette.

The best environment for Aurelie is one in which she will be a happy, spoiled singleton. While in foster care she has been in the company of four other dogs, having to be constantly separated from two of them as she would attack and not relent. When other dogs are around Lee-Lee becomes extremely distracted, overwhelmed and on high alert. She may not be a good dog park candidate, especially in large groups. Lee-Lee is aroused quickly and will go after small dogs. Since it's possible Aurelie would go after kitties, too, we'll err on the safe side and say "no" for their safety. When introduced to new dogs, Aurelie will display extremely confident behavior and is ready to take charge or defend herself, and she will not back down. For this reason, we feel she is more suited to a single dog household.

Shortly after being cleared by her doctor, Aurelie attended a small dog social to test out her social skills and was the star. She enjoyed playing with the other dogs and is getting better at meeting new friends without jumping right in their faces. Sometimes she just lies down in front of them to see if they’ll rub her belly. She’ll always need supervision around other dogs, and a confident dog savvy leader, but as long as she doesn’t have to share her home (or her food) with them, she is doing fine.

Lee-Lee turned one year old in March and celebrated with a chicken liver and sweet potato cupcake and did not share with her foster mom. Over the past six months in foster care, she has blossomed into an energetic and loving young lady. She still demands morning belly rubs and gets the zoomies when she’s in the mood to play, but she has been practicing her manners and now knows several commands. Whether it’s to put her in bed or on the couch, Aurelie will wiggle and squirm with delight when picked up. She doesn’t keep secrets too well, though, and will start talking like a blabbermouth in your ear and giving kisses when she’s close enough to do so.

She loves to go for rides in the car and look out the window, and makes a beeline for the door when she sees her leash.

Lee-Lee's foster mom tells us herself what type of home would best suit this busy, little froglette: "Aurelie would do best in an only dog home, with a family that can spend a lot of time with her to continue her positive training. She can become bored easily, so her forever home will need to understand the time commitment to her training. Now that she has learned how to focus and explore the world around her, she wants to learn everything. Although she sometimes plays with other, very submissive dogs, her mix of confidence and lack of early socializing can make it difficult for her to live with another dog. When she feels uncomfortable around other dogs, she may attack, and is constantly hyper-alert when they are around. Allowing her to live and grow up in a calm, safe environment will enable to her to focus on learning how to be a well-mannered and trained princess."

Can you offer Aurelie the calm, safe environment she deserves? If so, please apply for her. But be prepared for a road trip, because Lee-Lee is enjoying the Pennsylvania spring flowers and frog princesses should not be shipped
