Oh la la! Antoine is absolutely magnifique! This petit frog prince is ready to wiggle his way into your heart and live there forever. Antoine was surrendered to FBRN when his parents divorced and his mom no longer had the time to devote to him. She made the difficult, but loving decision to give Antoine up so he could find a home that has all the time in the world to snuggle him up and give him everything he needs.

Antoine does have a few needs. He has allergies that need to be monitored and managed. He currently takes daily Zyrtec, baths at least weekly, and needs to be wiped with baby wipes after coming in from outside. His skin folds must be cleaned with medicated pads every other day, as well. To keep him happy and itch-free, Antoine also eats grain free food, with fish oil and a probiotic supplement. His former home reported that he had two minor neurological events, but he hasn’t shown these symptoms while in foster care. It’s just something that Antoine’s new family should keep an eye out for, just in case. Finally, Antoine is being weaned off of Prozac. So far, he seems to be a happier, healthier, and more energetic (relatively speaking) pup without the meds, so it’s going quite well.

Antoine is a very, very (did we say very?) laid back guy. Most of the time, he’s content to chill and soak up all the love and attention you can give him. He’s rather indifferent to children and seems to prefer the company of adults. This doesn’t mean that he can’t live with kids, but he’d probably be happiest in a home with older, calm kiddos instead of the wacky and wild toddler set. How about cats, you ask? Mais non! They seem to exacerbate his allergies, so there can’t be any kitty cats in his new home. But dogs...dogs are another animal entirely. Antoine LOVES other dogs, and it seems to help his separation anxiety to have the company of other canines. A calm, similar sized dog would be a good match. Antoine is a submissive guy and a slow mover, so any pup who is looking for an active playmate would be best served elsewhere.

Antoine is quite the loafer. His foster mom says he’s one of the calmest dogs she’s ever met! He LOVES laying down, whether it's in his bed, on the carpet, or next to his people. He's not skittish or fearful in any way, but a strong leader who can help him with his confidence would be wonderful. He doesn't require much exercise—a run around the backyard, playing inside, or walk around the block is plenty. Antoine does fine at the dog park, but he’s more interested in chasing his person around than interacting with the other dogs.

Antoine is such a happy-go-lucky guy, content to back off and leave a toy or bone if another dog is being bossy about it. Antoine is housebroken, outside of his separation anxiety, which manifests through elimination (mostly poop, sometimes pee). When his people are home, he doesn’t have any accidents, but due to his loafiness, he sometimes has to be prompted to go outside and do his business. Monsieur Antoine also knows some lovely commands—sit, down, wait, and come. Due to his anxiety, crates are not the best option for him, but he doesn’t seem inclined to be destructive. He’ll need some attention to become comfortable and secure in his new home, so obedience classes or some other such activity would be a really great way to get started on that path.

One of Antoine’s favorite things in the whole, big, wide world is chewing. Give him a bone, an antler, whatever. You name it; he’ll chomp on it. But his absolute favorite thing, bar none, is to snuggle in with his people for a nice snooze. A home that can accept a quiet, little slow-paced soul would be wonderful for Antoine, as he's not going to be the ideal playmate for a child or dog. Anyone who understands and commits to looking after his allergies, even a first time Frenchie owner, would be just fine for this sweet boy. He’d do best in a home with a yard, but he could adapt to a variety of living situations. Most of all, he’d love his people to either be home all day or take him to the office. If he must be at home while his people work or go to school, he definitely needs another dog to keep him company. If he is left alone, the Thundershirt, some chewies, and another dog seem to help. His anxiety manifests mostly in pooping, so it would definitely be great to work on his confidence. Any new family will have to understand that Antoine will need an adjustment period, so they must be patient and loving with him until he becomes more comfortable.

Here’s what his loving foster mom has to say: "Antoine is the sweetest little soul, and everyone who meets him falls in love. He loves people, belly rubs and butt scratches. He is in need of a quiet home where he'll have a dog brother or sister to keep him company. He looks like a little bear cub, and has moments of surprising agility! We love seeing him weaning him off of Prozac, how a little more of his personality comes out each day. He's an easy going guy, who, despite his super smooshed face, is on the quieter side of the Frenchie noise scale."

If you’re ready to say "oui, oui" to a wonderful life with Antoine, put in your application now. He’s ready and waiting to add a little bit of French charm to your life, so start planning your trip to Jersey to come and get him.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
