Alabaster has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Updated 8/18/11
Poor Alabaster is suffering from congestive heart failure: lungs and heart sound ok. xrays showed about a 25% increase in vessel and heart size. his heart is also pushing his trachea upwards out of place contributing to the cough. vet said she would think less than 6 months would be surprised if he made it a year. there is nothing than can be done for him unless we want to consult a cardiologist. just watch his symptoms and when it gets too bad make a decision.
There is a special place for the senior frogs that we get here at FBRN and the foster families that step up to take care of them. There are also special forever families that see in a senior not the years past but the time to come. Alabaster is looking for one of those homes to spend his golden years with.
Alabaster is a gentle soul. Rescued by one of our very dedicated volunteers, he was picked up as a stray by a Good Samaritan and turned over to FBRN. We think he is about 10 years old and has a host of medical issues. It appears that someone dumped him when he needed his people most. Alabaster has cataracts that have caused him to lose vision in 1 eye and he has limited vision in the other. He is hard of hearing and is heartworm positive. He cannot be treated due to his age and the heart damage that has already been done. He has an arthritic left hip and a bad knee, and he's in early stages of kidney disease (treated by diet). He is being treated with joint supplements and other dietary supplements.
In spite of all of this, Alabaster loves people. Because of his hearing and vision, it's best he have a quiet home with no kids. Older, mellow dogs are fine, and cats are fine as well. He is housebroken. Alabaster would adapt to going to the office with his person, or relaxing in some warm sunshine at home. Since his favorite activity is to sleep, a fenced yard is preferred but not required.
Alabaster is looking for an understanding forever home that appreciates the gift of a senior frog and is willing to make his golden years truly golden. He is currently getting ready for summer and enjoying those sunny spots in SE Texas. He would appreciate a leisurely ride to his new home, so plan on picking him up in person; he will not be shipped.
