UPDATE 8/25/11
Recent xrays show that Aizzy's knees have significant arthritis and deterioration. She is currently taking Adequan injections with daily doses of anti-inflammatories and Dasuquin, which has been shown to improve joint health. She may need ongoing treatment and/or surgery in order to keep her mobile and comfortable. She continues to be a very loving girl and will make a great addition to a low-key family. She loves kids, dogs, cats, and cookies!
“Aizzy you is, or Aizzy you ain’t my baby….” We think you’ll agree that you’ll want to make Aizzy your baby! This brindle pied beauty was a former breeder then taken to a shelter. There, she was adopted by a loving family but after a year, they realized caring for two Frenchies was a bit much so they surrendered her to FBRN.
While in foster care, Aizzy has been given a tune-up from top to bottom. Aizzy has chronic ear infections, so her new family will have to keep a watchful eye on that. She also had a tumor removed from one of her ears, and that will also have to be watched to make sure there is no regrowth. Aizzy’s foster mom says her hearing may be a tad compromised, but then again Aizzy could just have that infamous selective Frenchie hearing… Moving on down the list, Aizzy received entropion surgery (her eyelashes were rubbing against the surface of her eye and scratching them) as well as Ectopic cilia removed, so her eyes will need to be monitored. Not to worry, Aizzy’s foster mom will go over everything with her new family. Aizzy came into FBRN with compromised breathing, but we’ve fixed her up by having her nares widened. Now she breathes much easier! Lastly, Aizzy appears to be a bit weak in the rear. Her vet doesn’t think this will be an issue needing tests or treatment, however, to be on the safe side, we recommend she not be allowed to jump on or off furniture. Though she loves to snuggle with you, she’ll need to be taught to use a set of pet stairs to share the couch or you’ll have to give her a hand up and down.
Aizzy is a sweet girl who hasn’t met a person or another dog she doesn’t like. She used to live with a young child, however she sometimes guards her favorite bone, so dog savvy children over 7 who won't tease her (and whose visiting friends won't tease her!) are recommended. Aizzy loves all dogs, especially dogs her own size that she can play chase and wrestle with. The kitties in her foster home really hold no interest for her either; in fact, she just ignores them. Aizzy has no food aggression and no bite history. She eats all her meals and treats in the company of her foster fur siblings. She will occasionally guard a favorite bone, but is easily corrected by her foster parents.
Aizzy is an easygoing gal who just wants a soft place to rest her head, some yummy food and a few toys. What Frenchie doesn’t? Aizzy, usually content to follow the pack around, is generally a submissive girl; however, she’ll stand her ground if she’s pushed or attacked. Aizzy’s favorite things are chewing on bones and de-stuffing toys. She truly loves to be near her people; she’s always ready for an ear or belly rub.
Aizzy is not completely housebroken, but she does just fine if she’s kept on a schedule. She knows outside is the appropriate place to go out and potty, however she’s not the best about signaling to go out. Sometimes Aizzy will let you know she’s unhappy about being left behind by leaving a little present in the house. For example, if Aizzy’s foster mom goes into the bathroom or in the basement without her, Aizzy will surely let her know of her displeasure! Although Aizzy is considered crate trained, she gets far too worked up if left crated. She will even chew the bars and cause her mouth to bleed. She’s not destructive and just wants to be out with her foster fur siblings so we recommended the use of a dog gate to contain her either in the kitchen or a small uncarpeted room.
The ideal home for Aizzy would have at least one other dog, preferably one her own size. Her new person should also either work in the home or take her to work. Aizzy does suffer from separation anxiety, so a schedule in which her person is gone for long hours would not work for her. Traffic makes Aizzy nervous, so a home in a quiet neighborhood would make her happiest. A fenced yard would be nice, but not mandatory since she would really rather be with her people. Also, because of Aizzy’s back, a home without a lot of stairs is preferred.
This is what Aizzy’s foster family had to say about their foster: “Aizzy is a very loving dog who asks for little more than your love in return. She wants to be where ever you are, sleep where you sleep, and give soft Frenchie kisses. Ideally she will have a family where she can give her love to several people, play with another dog, and know nothing but the best life has to offer for the rest of her days.”
Aizzy is enjoying the summer with her foster family in Missouri. If she sounds like your kind of girl, then please be prepared to pick her up in person; FBRN does not ship Frenchies.
