Lara is a charming older gal that came to FBRN when her previous owner was unable to care for her eye issues. This 10-year-old doesn’t get along well with other canines or cats, but loves children. Children in her forever home should be old enough to understand her behavioral issues and guarding behaviors. Lara also has limited vision, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit.

Lara is a resource guarder and has aggressive tendencies when it comes to her food and bones. She doesn’t like anyone to bother her, and that goes for humans as well as other dogs. Lara should be given plenty of space when eating or chewing on bones and she should be an only pet. Lara simply doesn’t care for being social and spending time with other dogs. Her human is all she needs!

Lara is potty trained, but like many senior gals, she can’t hold it as well as she used to. Lara is also crate trained, but prefers her freedom and will cry when left in her crate alone.

This girl loves her walks! Her morning and evening walks are the highlight of her day. She tires easily and doesn’t need to go too far, but she really loves those daily outings. Lara isn’t a big fan of toys, but she does love her bones. Once she is comfortable in her surroundings, she is very loving and tends to stick to her person like glue. Chin and belly rubs are her favorites! Lara also loves sunbathing in the yard followed by a nice roll in the dirt.

Lara is looking for a quiet home to settle down and spend her golden years. She should be an only pet and any children in her new home should be 13 or over. Lara is looking for a person who is undaunted by her eye conditions and understanding of her behavioral issues.

Lara will need eye medications for the rest of her life, and check-ups with the eye doctor a few times a year. Lara is looking for a loving and patient person who is committed to keeping up with her medical needs. She would do best with someone who is home all day, as her medication requirements are quite rigorous. There is a daily eye wash, a twice a day eye solution, as well as a solution and an ointment that must be applied 4 times a day. She’s a great patient for all of the medications and it quickly becomes part of the daily routine.

Lara requires slow introductions with people, so a fenced-in yard with not a lot of people coming or going would be ideal. It’s unlikely that Lara would do well as an office dog, but perhaps in a quiet office with only a few employees that she could slowly get to know.

Lara’s foster family had this to say about her: “Lara is a very special dog, with a big heart. It seems she had a rough start, but has overcome so many obstacles. The biggest hope is for Lara to find a love-filled home, where she can be a part of the family.”
