Hold onto your hats folks, Tormund is available for adoption! This handsome fella is one of four Frenchies who came to FBRN from Turkey. Tormund has adapted well to life in his foster home and we can’t wait to see him really blossom in his forever home!
Tormund has several allergies and must remain on medication (Apoquel) as well as a raw diet. Check with your vet about the cost of Apoquel in your area. It varies, region to region. He takes supplements in our care, and he should stay on them.
Tormund is a happy, active dog who wants to be with people and other dogs. However, he has a high prey drive and must never be around cats, birds, or other small animals. Because Tormund has a tendency to resource guard, he wouldn’t be a good fit for families with young children or where there are visiting kids under eight or kids or visitors of any age without enough dog-savvy to know "we don't take the dog's toy or play in his food dish or tease him with food" or otherwise endanger themselves around a resource-guarder. Tormund is also a bit mouthy when playing and for that reason younger children wouldn’t be a good fit.
Tormund currently lives with 8 other Frenchies, both male & female and he does great! However, Tormund should never be allowed to play with toys or be fed in the same room as other dogs. Foster mom can take his toy and his food, but kids don't have the same authority as moms. Let's not invite a problem.
Tormund is very active and agile and needs A LOT of exercise! He’s a very curious boy who has been found on counters and tables when left to his own devices. He can also clear a 4 foot fence with no problem at all and indoor baby gates don’t stand a chance. Thus, when his family is not home, Tormund is crated. Other than ripping stuffies and paper towels to shreds, he hasn’t shown any destructive behavior so if you keep your counter and table tops clean, he’d probably do just fine with free roam of the house. Tormund is extremely biddable; he wants to learn and please his human and we would love to see him in competitive dog sports and/or continued obedience training to build his confidence.
We would like to see Tormund with an active adult family with no kids or older kids or an active senior family who would be sure he gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. He would be fine in any type of home from apartment to motor home to ranch house, colonial, or farmhouse provided he gets enough exercise. A yard with a 6 foot fence would be ideal since he’s quite the jumper! Tormund would really enjoy hiking, running, biking and agility. He is not extremely brachycephalic--the boy's got a bit of a snoot-- so experience with Frenchies isn’t necessary. We think he is social enough to accompany his person to work, but we also think he’d love a person who has a schedule that would allow them to spend a great deal of time with Tormund at home.
Here’s a few things his foster family wants everyone to know, “Tormund is a goofy, curious, happy boy who wants to be physically and mentally active, yet cuddles when his human is quiet. He loves snuggling when foster mom naps, and shares the bed with others. A canine companion would be wonderful, but no cats or other animals. He is a hunter, and almost choked on a horsefly he stalked and caught! I would love to see him with an owner who exercises with his/her dog(s) or is interested in competitive dog sports. He would be a star because he loves thinking and pleasing his humans!”
If you think Tormund is the perfect addition to your active family, please apply today! In the meantime, Tormund will be practicing his winning smile in his foster home.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. Get ready for a road trip to Southern Maine since Tormund is too tall to fly.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Tormund has several allergies and should remain on daily apoquel, current raw diet, and supplements to stay healthy and at his best.
Tormund has a high prey drive and must never be around cats, birds, or other small animals. On walks, he will chase squirrels or chipmunks, so he has to be on lead--never allowed to explore off-lead "just this once." He is a resource guarder so must never be around small children. He must be monitored during feeding and when toys are present. A slow intro is required if there are other dogs in the home. Tormund would benefit from continued obedience training to build his confidence.
