Gustav was surrendered after his previous owner had heart surgery and had a difficult time taking care of himself and Gustav. We know that health problems are a hardship for humans and dogs and we’re happy that we’re able to help in these impossible situations. Gustav is on a medication for seizures that needs to be administered every 8 hours. It is very important that dosage is accurate and on time.
While in foster care, sweet Gustav has been neutered and had a tooth removed! His seizure meds were fine-tuned and he’s enjoying all the love and attention he’s getting in his foster home. Gustav enjoys the company of cats as well as other dogs. He's not a fan of young energetic dogs, and he simply avoids them. Gustav likes children! He has hung out with a newborn and a 2-year-old with no issues. Because Gustav doesn’t enjoy being picked up, we think he would do best with older, dog savvy children.
Gustav is a laid back gentleman. He is super chill and wants nothing more than to curl up next to his person and snooze. He enjoys following his person from room to room and he will be the first in the kitchen while you're cooking, in case you drop any good morsels! Gustav enjoys a walk around the block, but at his own pace. He prefers to stop and say hello to all the neighbors along the way!
Gustav is potty trained, but if you miss his signal to go outside he will have an accident. Frequent potty breaks are needed due to his medication, so consider your availability before applying. While in foster care, Gustav has not been crated. He is a very mellow old guy and does well when left to roam the house on his own.
Even though he doesn’t have enough teeth left to do much damage, Gustav loves antlers and bones. He doesn't have any interest in toys, but he loves food and will do just about anything for a treat. It is probably safe to say that Gustav’s favorite activity is napping and getting rubs!
We think Gustav would be a great match for just about any low key family. He is quite adaptable! Ideally he would be in a home where someone was home all the time. However, Gustav would be a fantastic office companion. He is an amazing greeter and loves everyone he meets! All of that greeting would be tiring though, so Gustav would require a soft spot at the office to nap off and on all day.
Being an older gentleman, Gustav probably shouldn't have a lot of stairs to worry about. He can navigate stairs pretty well, but we’d prefer that he didn’t have to. Gustav doesn't need a fence as he really doesn't bolt or wander, but he does loves a good roll in the grass! Access to a grassy yard or nearby park would be lovely.
Here are a few things Gustav’s foster mom wants you to know, “Gus is a happy old man who wants to love everyone he meets. He gets a little hop in his step and a ridiculously adorable butt waggle when I come home that just make my day. He's been a joy to have in our home and I know he'll be the light of his forever family's life. He also has the cutest little grunts and snorts that remind me of a little pig.”
If you think Gustav could be the perfect little piggie for your family, then please apply for him today! Make sure you’re ready for a trip to Northeast Kansas, because this handsome boy will not be shipped.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
